Periodical Indexes
  • Art Index [REF Index Table 016.75 A784] is a paper subject-author guide to art literature. Although it is primarily a periodical index, yearbooks and museum bulletins, and book reviews are included. Subject areas indexed include archaeology, architecture, art history, city planning, crafts, motion pictures, graphic arts, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, photography, and related fields.
  • ProQuest Direct indexes a variety of articles covering the arts, business, humanities, health, social sciences and the sciences. It indexes approximately 1,800 journals. 75% of them are available in full text online. African Arts, American Artist, and American Journal of Art Therapy are among the art periodicals it indexes.
  • EBSCOHost (Academic Search Premier)indexes articles in the areas of business, social science, humanities, general academic, general science, education, and multicultural issues. Approximately 1/4th to 1/3rd of indexed journals are available in full text online. Art & Australia, Art Bulletin, Art History, Art in America, and Art Journal are among the art periodicals it indexes.
  • FirstSearch provides access to over 60 databases in 14 topical areas in which you can search for books articles, films, computer software, and other materials. Please ask a librarian for assistance with the login and password.
Art Periodicals (magazines and journals) are primarily catalogued in the early P/700s. Microfilm is stored on the first floor of Huie Library and bound and paper periodicals are kept on the second floor on the gray shelves, at the same end of the library. Many periodicals can also be accessed through online databases. The most commonly used databases are accessed through EBSCOHost, ProQuest Direct, and Lexis Nexis.

Conduct your research early in the semester in case you need journal articles and books that are not held in HSU and OBU's libraries. You can request and receive these items from other libraries by filling out a simple form. Most loan requests take less than two weeks and books are generally slower in coming than journal articles. There is rarely a charge for this service.
