Henderson State University's three story Huie Library is one of the best supported
university libraries in Arkansas. Its purpose is to provide for the curricular needs
of students and faculty and to make research more efficient and productive. Over 250,000
booksand numerous computerized databases and audiovisual materials are held in
Huie Library. Many of the databases are periodical indexes that provide full text access
to thousands of serial titles. Inter-Library Loan also makes the collections of other
libraries throughout the state and country available to patrons.
Most books are circulated for 28 days. Students
must have their university
i.d. card to check out library materials. Overdue items are considered lost, and the
person they are checked out to is asked to pay for them or return them. At this point a
$5 billing fee is charged. No overdue fines are collected, however, which makes using
Huie Library's collections a pleasure. The staff does not feel that students should be
penalized for using the library, but depends instead on the goodwill of patrons for
returning materials as quickly as possible in case others need them.
