Community Patron Policies
Huie Library may be used by any community patron. Any person under the age of sixteen must be accompanied by an adult. Usage of the library by members of the community is not a right, but a privilege that can and may be revoked.
Getting a Library Card
Community patrons, including HSU graduates, may apply for a Henderson State University library card. To qualify, you must be a resident of Arkansas and provide proof of your mailing address and proof of your social security number. Patrons under twelve must also have a parent's signature. There is a $5.00 charge for the card and a $5.00 charge for any replacements. HSU graduates do not pay the initial $5.00 charge, but all other policies and charges apply. Please fill out an Application/Registration for Community ID Card.
To check out any item or to use the Community Computers you must have your card. We do not look up accounts or use alternate means of identification. This is for your protection. The account holder will be held responsible for any material checked out on the account. Do not lend your card to others, and report lost or stolen cards as soon as possible.
There are four Community Computers located next to the Circulation Desk for use by Community patrons. In order to be able to log onto the computers, Community patrons will need a valid Community Library Card and will need to be entered into the system that manages the computers. For more information on the Community Computers, please see our Community Computer Use Policy page.
What Can Be Checked Out & Check Out Periods
Community patrons may have a maximum of three items checked out at any given time. These can be any combination of the following:
- Bestsellers (14 days)
- Books (28 days)
- Audiobooks (14 days)
- Videos/DVDs (5 days)
Only videos/DVDs from the 'popular movie' collection may be checked out.
Any bestseller, book, and score may be renewed as long as there is not a hold on the item. To renew, you must bring the item and your Huie library card to the circulation desk. Videos, DVDs, and audiobooks do not renew.
Overdues, Billing, and Replacement Charges
Community patrons who have any overdue items, bills, or unpaid billing fees, or who are over any limits will have checkout privileges revoked until items are returned and fees paid. There is a $5.00 billing fee for each billing statement that is generated. Replacement charges for lost or damaged material will be a minimum of $50.00 or the price of the item - whichever is greater.
A/V Room and Group Study Room Policy
Items that do not check out to community patrons such as educational videos/DVDs and items from the music library collection may be viewed or listened to in the A/V Room although community usage will be on a non-priority basis. Community patrons may also use the Group Study Room on a non-priority basis. No food or drink is allowed.
All other policies, including those dealing with behavior and with internet usage, apply. Policies can be accessed from the Library website homepage. It is the responsibility of community patrons to familiarize themselves with policy. The Library reserves the right to change policies as it deems necessary.
